Numero Uno

So much has been going on this season, but since this is my first blog entry ever (woohoo!) I want this to be a statement of who I am and why I think I’m “called to ball”.  For any newcomers who may not know my situation, there were a series of "coincidental" events (I don't believe in coincidences) totally out of my hands that led me to where I am in now.  Where am I now?  I'm playing professional basketball in Italy as an Italian citizen for my second year!  Some say that I'm living my dream, but this was way beyond my wildest dreams!  I set big goals for myself, but playing professionally never even seemed to be an option.  I was fortunate to even get a full scholarship to Tulane University to play basketball (Roll Wave!) and then an agent saw my Italian last name, we found out that my great-grandparents weren't naturalized American citizens until AFTER my grandfather was born, meaning he was born Italian, batta-boom-batta-bam and here I am!  What's really fun about this is that I'm not over here “riding the pine” like I prepared myself for.  I'm playing on an unsuccessful team for now, but I'm leading my team in scoring for the second year in a row.  After this season, if I am supposed to play a couple more years, awesome.   If not, I've already had the chance of a lifetime to be here and play!  I won't forget who's time I'm on here.

I'm hoping this blog will give me an outlet to talk about what's going on, communicate to friends and family so that I can stay in touch with people (which is so hard to do sometimes) as well as document my experiences…which will be really cool for me to look back at years down the road.  Thanks for sticking with me, and God Bless.  - Jami
